April 8, 2008 was a very sad date for us and all of Cellar!'s and Strat's Place community, as Art Stratemeyer suddenly passed away.
In 1995, he created Stratsplace.com, one the first fast-growing Internet communities. As time went by since its humble beginning, Statsplace accumulated a ton of information, on Arts and Gardens, but most of all on Wine.
Art was also the founder of Cellar!, also in 1995. Stratsplace and Cellar! have always been interconnected through the repository of tasting notes and selected other information, but yet kept their own independance. With Art's passing away however, things have changed and the content on Stratsplace.com was going to disappear soon. That's why Bryan, Betsy (Art's wife) and I decided jointly to transform the wine-related content from Stratsplace.com into a forum-like knowledge base to be integrated into Cellar!'s Discussion Forum. We believe this is the best way to keep the information available to all, while making it more dynamic. We also believe that this is the perfect way of honoring Art's memory and keeping a part of him alive.
Art was not only a partner for us, but a very dear friend, so we truly hope that Stratsplace.com's huge knowledge base will continue to grow though the new forum that we've created in his memory. Similarly to Stratsplace, the ongoing forum will be the work of contributions from you, 1000's of readers who, over the years, have and will still unselfishly share their thoughts and experiences with us.
Thank you Art, for your friendship, for your dedication to your work, for creating such a friendly community. Thank you for Stratsplace !
