This is a feature that was born out of our pure laziness and the fact that we wanted to make it easy for our spouses to be able to simply grab a wine and not have to worry about recording it to keep our inventory straight.

Here's how we use it:

• When we get a new wine we create a barcode for it and put it on the bottle.
  
• Then, when we take a bottle out of the cellar, we simply take off the barcode and stick it on a pad of paper there in the cellar.
  
• Once a week or once a month, we take the pad of paper to the room with the computer in it and scan out the labels. This automatically keeps our inventory straight!
  
• We print to standard, removable Avery labels.

We even have users that have put remote barcode readers in their cellars so that they can scan them out from there. We do not sell barcode readers; they are readily available on the Internet.

However, you don't actually need a barcode scanner to use barcodes! You can just type the number on the bottom of the barcode into Cellar!
