- I'm having problems and would like to fully uninstall and reinstall Cellar! What should I do? Top
If you come across problems running Cellar!, don't fret -- it's likely that some other package that you have installed has interfered with Cellar's operation. An uninstall/reinstall will fix the problem most of the time.
Please first back up your data to ensure that you don't lose any data during the uninstall/reinstall. See this FAQ (#7) for details on backing up your data.
Here are the steps to fully uninstall and reinstall Cellar!:- Select the "Remove Cellar!" icon from your Windows Start menu (under the Cellar! group).
- Locate the folder where Cellar! was installed and delete it.
- Download and execute this file to erase all Windows registry entries related to Cellar!.
- To reinstall Cellar!, use the latest full setup version.
- Once Cellar! is reinstalled, try running it with the sample demo database and see if it works correctly.
- If you have a file called "registration.reg" in your backup directory, copy it to the directory where you installed Cellar! Double-click registration.reg to install your registration information.
If you don't have a registration.reg file, launch Cellar! and use the Help/Enter registration info menu item to register your copy (using your original registration email -- if you don't have the email, send us a note and we'll dig it up for you).
- Then, one by one, copy your backed up files into the Cellar! directory and see if Cellar! continues to work fine between each.
We hope this will help you resolve your problems!

- What are the system requirements to run Cellar! ? Top
Cellar! will run on any Pentium class ( or greater ) machine. We have tested it under the following operating systems: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista.
It has been known not to work properly on Windows NT 4.
Memory: 64 meg (although, like all other Windows programs, the more memory, the better the performance) Disc Space: Approximately 40 meg, depending on the number of wines that you track Monitor: Any Printer: Any
On Windows 98 and ME, you also need: 60% minimum free System resources 60% minimum free User resources 40% minimum free GDI resources To monitor resources on Windows 95/98/ME, read the following article.
We occasionally get requests to run Cellar! on a MAC. We do not have the facilities for MAC development or testing. However, we have had reports that Cellar! will run under SoftWindows (or other Windows emulators) on a MAC. The easiest way to check this for yourself is to download a copy of the demo and give it a try.
Regarding Windows Vista There is now a special version of Cellar!, optimized for Vista, available for download.
Cellar! 3.6.0 for Vista
However, you still have to enable the "XP Compatible" mode (right-click on the Cellar! shortcut and go into Properties and on the Compatibility tab) and specify to "Run as administrator".

- How do I install Cellar! on more than one machine? Top
The only requirement is that you copy your registration key onto each machine:
- Install Cellar! on your 2nd machine.
- If you have a file called "registration.reg" in your Cellar! folder on your original machine, copy it to the directory where you installed Cellar! on your 2nd machine. Run the file registration.reg on your 2nd machine by double clicking on it.
Note: if registration.reg already exists on your 2nd machine, you will need to replace it with the one from your original installation.
- If you don't have a registration.reg file, launch Cellar! and use the Help/Enter registration info menu item to register your copy (using your original registration email -- if you don't have the email, send us a note and we'll dig it up for you).
- Make sure that Cellar! works with the demo database.
- Copy the necessary database files from your first machine to the second machine -- see this faq: http://www.cellarwinesoftware.com/faq/5.html#7

- My system has crashed and I need to reinstall Cellar!. How do I do this if I purchased the download version and not the CD? Top
- Download the latest and install it on your new computer.
- Retrieve the e-mail you received when you bought Cellar! online. It contains the registration key to unlock your copy. If you can't find it, with your name and e-mail address so that we can send you a copy of your key.
- Follow the instructions contained in the e-mail that is sent to you.

- Notes about upgrading under Windows 2000/XP. Top
When you use the online, automatic upgrade feature, you must be logged on as the same user that you installed Cellar! as.
For example, if you installed Cellar! as "Administrator", then you must be logged on as Administrator for the upgrade to work.

- How do I import my data from the 2.20 version to the new 3.x version ? Top
We have not supported version 2.2 for 3 years.
We did have a conversion engine to allow people to upgrade, however that was a completely separate program that had to be re-written and debugged every time we made an upgrade to the new version. Since the majority of all 2.2 users have now converted over to the latest version, we stopped upgrading the conversion program.
For those very few who still have 2.2, you will need to purchase the current version and re-input your data.

- How do I manually install MDAC and the JET engine? Top
If you ever need to manually download and install these components, follow these steps: Then, try Cellar! again to see if it works correctly.
You may also want to use this procedure using Microsoft tools to determine if MDAC is installed correctly.
If you still experience problems, try a full uninstall and reinstall using these directions.

- I'm getting errors about SuperCombo.ocx. Top
This can also be accompanied by an "Out of memory" message.
Cellar! uses a sizeable amount of Windows resources, which on Windows 95, 98 and ME, are fixed in size (it doesn't matter how much memory you have).
The solution in this case would be to make sure you are running Cellar! with ALL other software/tools closed. Or, alternatively, upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP.
Please read the following FAQ for more information on system requirements.
If you experience this problem on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please contact us at support@cellarwinesoftware.com.

- I am unable to complete the setup! It loops continuously on installing the required components Top
We do not know why this occurs on some computers (less than 5% of the computers installing the software experience this problem).
But fortunately, there is a way to work around this problem.

- Cellar! won't start all of a sudden? Top
Microsoft released a service pack for their JET Engine (SP7) around June 25th, 2003. This service pack is available through the Windows Update feature of your operating system and offered as a "Recommended Update". The title contains the identification number 282010.
If you are running Cellar! 3.3.11 or earlier and you install this update, Cellar! will stop working. You will not even be able to launch the program as it will crash during startup.
To fix the problem, install version 3.3.13 or later (download the full setup here), or, you may be able to uninstall the service pack. On Windows 2000 or XP, you simply go into your control panel, select "Add/Remove Programs", locate the Windows update with the ID "282010" and select to remove it.

- I installed Cellar 3.3.12 and have since upgraded to 3.3.13. On exiting Cellar I get "Severe Database Error, Cellar DBCompact, failed to activate control. VB.UserControl". Top
Locate the Tools folder under your Cellar! folder. Delete the file "CompactDB.exe" and then reinstall the 3.3.13 update (or any later update): http://www.cellarwinesoftware.com/users/updates/cellar_update_3.3.13.exe

- My computer freezes during installation Top
During the setup of Cellar!, everything seems to go fine when all of a sudden, the setup seems to be locked on one of the file. We've seen this problem mostly when the setup says it is installing the file TAB32X30.OCX but we cannot be sure it cannot happen elsewhere during setup.
We've been able to reproduce this only once and we discovered the solution quite by accident. By shutting down all unnecessary tasks (using the Windows task manager) the setup simply resumed after one of the other task ended.
So, we STRONGLY advise you shut down all but necessary task before installing Cellar!.
Start by closing the most obvious ones, programs that are running and are shown on the Windows task bar. This would include any application that you launched manually.
Then close the ones that are shown in the system tray (usually to the right of the task bar). This would mostly be background tools and services that are launched right at the start of your Windows session.
Finally, access the Windows Task Manager (by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL). If you see any application "not responding", you should select it and click "End task" to kill it. If you see any application that you cannot properly close but know should not be there, click "End task" to kill it too. The very last step would be to check each individual process and end it if it is not required. Please do a few search on the Internet before shutting down tasks you're not sure about.
Thank you and sorry for any inconvenience.

- I'm connected to the Internet, but cannot successfully use C! Online features or register online. Top
First, make sure that you can reach our website, www.cellarwinesoftware.com using your web browser.
If you have any firewall software installed, disable it and then try the C! Online features again.
In particular, we know that the Norton Firewall product causes this problem. To fix the issues in Norton Firewall, go to the Norton configuration settings that control access to the Internet by program. Giving Cellar unlimited access to the Internet should fix the problem.

- Somehow, the barcode font was not installed properly, how can I manually install it? Top
Go to the folder where you installed Cellar! (usually C:\Program Files\Cellar!).
Inside this folder, you will see a subfolder called "BarcodeFontInstall". Open it and you will see a file named "install_bc39_font.cmd".
Simply run this file by double-clicking on it. You will likely need to reboot your computer for the font to be recognized.
